"The meaning of beauty as a concept can be hard to grasp. Ideas on what should be defined as beautiful within society are ever-changing and embedded in social, cultural and historical contexts. In earlier work like Local Surgeon 2084, Semuel Souhuwat exposed his audience to thought-provoking images, raising questions upon societal beauty norms and standards, now and in an unknown world to come. With his creations he aims to explore notions of beauty from different angles. What causes us being drawn towards one aesthetic characteristic of the human body while in some cases being collectively repelled by another? And could our eyes by looking at these photographs perhaps create space in our minds to rethink our values?"
